Not to be that guy but “ís” is Icelandic for “ice” and “land” is
Icelandic for “land.” Thus Ísland is Icelandic for - you guessed it - Iceland. It’s pronounced EES-land. Kind of ironic because there were actually some forests there when the Vikings first arrived. The English word island comes from Old English.
